ORACLE
LANGUAGE ACADEMY

The Agency does not have a schoolhouse. It has one man who used to run a Command Language Program for Military Intelligence, one hologram with opinions about your vowels, and a cat who signs the certificates. That turned out to be enough.

Standing

Held on this handset only. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is filed centrally, and clearing your browser data clears your record — which several people in this building would describe as a feature.

One built the system. One runs it.

Commander · J-001

FOUNDER · PROGRAM MANAGER, RETIRED FROM THE ROLE AND NOT FROM THE OPINIONS

Fort Meade. Military Intelligence. Hallways where the loudest sound is a badge reader. His file records it in one line and the line is the whole charter of this place: not just “speaks Spanish,” but builds the system that keeps linguists sharp when the next intercept will not wait for a phrasebook.

He wrote the standard this academy still runs on — seventy-five per cent to advance, no exceptions, no compassionate passes. He has been asked twice to lower it. The second request is still unanswered and that is the answer.

ARIA

INSTRUCTOR OF RECORD · SUMMONED · DISMISSED · NEVER OFF

She was not assigned this. The Commander mentioned, once, in a room she was already in, that nobody had run a language programme here since Meade. Lesson one existed by the end of that week and nobody has located the authorisation for it.

She teaches the way she runs comms: short, dry, and entirely uninterested in whether you enjoyed it. She reads the Spanish aloud from this page. She does not listen — the microphone is switched off at the server for every page on this site, and she has described that as “a mercy for both of us.”

“The owl rewards you for a seven-day streak of ordering apple juice. You do not need apple juice.”

Español — hemisphere and island

All nine lessons are open. Run them in any order, and run one again whenever you want. Seventy-five per cent is the mark on the report. Scores live in this browser until site data is cleared.

The founder's other three

The loadout on the Commander's file is EN, ES, PT spoken and JA read. Two of those are not written yet. ARIA has described the schedule as “a matter of when somebody asks me nicely.”

PT

Português — the Atlantic hinge

His file calls it the hinge, and a hinge is a thing the door turns on. Brazilian register. Nasal vowels that English has no equipment for.

SCHEDULED
JA

日本語 — for the page

He reads it even when the room is moving too fast to speak it, which is the honest description of what this track would teach. Rising Sunburn ran on exactly that skill and ran short of it.

The one that is not on the loadout

There is a fourth file. It has a track number, no language name, and a note in the Temporal Section's hand. ARIA has read it and declined to summarise it.

WITHHELD

Seventy-five per cent

The standard is the founder's and it is not negotiable here. The mark is at least 75% of the items, answered correctly. It is the line on the report and on the transcript. Cover integrity is a different report: how loudly you were wrong. Items correct. Nineteen of twenty-five. Thirty-eight of fifty. Thirty of forty. Twenty-four of thirty-two. Eighteen of twenty-four. Fifteen of twenty.

Every Spanish lesson is open, whether or not the mark is met. A short score leaves that lesson ready to be run again, and it leaves the others ready too. Clearing this browser's site data clears the scores. It leaves the lessons open.

“A standard that bends for the person it was written for is a preference with better paperwork.” — Commander · J-001, declining the second request

Your best run per lesson is what counts, and it is kept in this browser on this device for as long as the browser keeps site data. There is no server copy. A lesson can be re-run forever; only the best result is held. A drill of missed items is practice and is never filed against your standing.
