J.A.M.E.S.H.A. JUNIOR AGENT TRAINING RECORD
CLASSIFIED TRAINING RECORD OP-JRDEPTH-26 HANDLER: NIGHT SHADE

// JUNIOR AGENT QUAL SCHOOL · SAN FRANCISCO AO · FIELD MISSION 09

OPERATION
JUNIOR DEPTH

Four chapters · six stations · one badge · Commander minimised on purpose

After Setting Sunburn, the agency did the sensible thing and put Night Shade in charge of teaching the next lot properly. Junior Agents qualify through four blocks: the submarine, the Chronograph arcade, the pier, and the city. Sunglasses indoors are doctrine. Everything you are about to read is on the record.

Read this before the first station

Night Shade is the handler of record and signs every station. Cadet Hatch and Cadet Token are the class. The Commander appears in this file only as historical precedent for the sunglasses doctrine, and because he was, at one point, inside a bucket.

The sequence is fixed: SubmarineChronographPierCity. Three of those four blocks are ordinary classified training. One of them is not, and the pictures will tell you which.

Junior Agents are not briefed on temporal anomalies before the Chronograph block. That is deliberate. A cadet who knows what the machine is will look at the machine. A cadet who does not will look at everything else, which is the whole skill.

01 // CHAPTER ONE

SS-383 hull school

CLASSIFIED · HULL BLOCK NO TEMPORAL EFFECT

USS Pampanito, Pier 45. The cadets board, learn to dog a hatch, survive the red-lit berthing compartment, and discover that a submarine is mostly corridors with valves attached. Sunglasses stay on indoors. Night Shade is grading.

TORPEDO LOAD // look, don’t touch
Berthing compartment aboard the submarine
BERTH ANOMALY // one extra sailor, unscheduled

AA GUN BRIEF // handler + cadet
Control room gauges aboard the submarine
CONTROL MAZE // snack valve still missing

02 // CHAPTER TWO · TEMPORAL

Chronograph · Musée Mécanique

CHRONOGRAPH · OLD-TIME RECOVERY TEMPORAL CLEARANCE: ACTIVE

This is the only block that runs the Chronovisor. The cadets believe they are playing antique machines in a building on Pier 45 — and they are. What they do not know is that the Chronograph is recording the session onto period stock, which is why everything below comes back looking a century old.

Chronovisor record. The Chronograph writes to old stock, so the recovery comes back looking a hundred years old. Nothing is wrong with the camera.

Two Junior Agents at an antique arcade machine
CADETS // feeding a machine older than the agency
Junior Agents at the USS Pampanito penny souvenir press
PENNY PRESS // 50c to flatten a cent, unquestioned
Junior Agent operating an antique arcade machine
CADET AT THE CRANK // total commitment
Night Shade holding a fortune card from an arcade machine
HANDLER // drew a fortune, did not share it
Antique arm-wrestling arcade machine wearing a luchador mask
ARM WRESTLE // 1900s strength tester. It wins.
The Inquest coin-operated diorama
THE INQUEST // same hearing, running a century
Antique motorcycle in a glass display case
CASED MACHINE // evidence the Chronograph overshot
A row of antique arcade cabinets
CABINET ROW // coin in, answers later

HANDLER NOTE — Do not tell the cadets what the Chronograph is until this block is signed off. If the pictures come back looking like 1908, the machine is working correctly and nobody needs to file anything.

03 // CHAPTER THREE

Pier block · sea puppies

CLASSIFIED · WATERFRONT BLOCK NO TEMPORAL EFFECT

Night Shade keeps the class on the waterfront for soft-asset diplomacy with the resident colony — sea puppies, her term, now permanent within the programme. The cadets were briefed on safety first. They listened, which is more than the last class managed.

04 // CHAPTER FOUR

Surface blend

CLASSIFIED · CITY BLOCK NO TEMPORAL EFFECT

Deck guns, bay overwatch, hills and crowds. The cadets practise looking entirely ordinary while Night Shade watches from somewhere behind them. Difficulty rating: deceptively high.

Looking down the barrel of a deck gun
GUN POV // smile, you’re in the crosshairs
View across the bay towards Alcatraz
BAY OVERWATCH // Alcatraz on the bearing
The submarine seen from the water
SURFACE CONTACT // the classroom floats
Grant Avenue street scene
GRANT AVE SKIM // crowds are camouflage

05 // QUALIFICATION BOARD

Sign the six stations

Tap a station when a cadet clears it. Six signed and the Junior Agent badge is issued. Your progress is remembered on this device, so you can come back and finish the class later.

06 // AGENT REGISTRY

Make your Junior Agent ID

Every cadet gets a card. Put a name in, pick what you are good at, and the registry assigns your codename. The same name always gets the same codename — that is how the registry works, and yes, it has been checked.
